Can’t wait for fall sports? Look no further than the NWAC Fall Festival this weekend at Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation. This multi-day event will feature 50 men’s and women’s soccer matches and 96 volleyball matches. Over 1,800 intercollegiate athletes will be participating in what is considered the largest collegiate sports festival in the nation!
As a way to give back to the community, all major NWAC events involve their student-athletes in a community service project. This year at the NWAC Fall Festival, member schools will be providing school supplies for the McKinney-Vento Program and the Family Resource Center at the Brattain House to pass along to students in the Springfield area. A load of excitement with teams from across the United States all fighting for their place on the podium and there were many spectacular moments. Student-athletes qualified to be at this prestigious meet through hard work and dedication. We are, of course, talking about the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships that happened June 8 – June 11 at historic Hayward Field , right here in Eugene, OR. We watched 4 days of exciting competition as the best male and female collegiate athletes competed for individual and team titles. Our staff spent the days leading up to the meet in the lobbies of key hotels, greeting NCAA visitors and providing materials and information to help athletes and visitors alike enjoy their stay in our city – a service we often provide to our sports events. It’s really exciting to experience the buzz in the air when the NCAA’s come to town. We hope that our athletes and fans enjoyed their time in TrackTown USA, because we loved having them here! What a night ladies and gentlemen! I couldn’t tell you the last time I had that much fun at a red carpet event. The athletes and sports fans of Lane County were out in full force and enjoying themselves. Everything from the red carpet to the food to the entertainment was a crowd pleaser. (Did you see Jordan Kent & me in the photo booth?! We’re both in suits!) Continue reading →
WOW! That’s all I’ve got to say about The Big O Tournament… Well, maybe I have a little bit more to say.
I saw one of the many billboards about this event and thought “hey I should check this out” and boy am I glad I did. Having never been to a Roller Derby Tournament, I didn’t know what to expect but let me just say these men and women are some talented athletes. Continue reading →

Imagine the red carpet being rolled out for your team; every aspect of your stay from arrival to departure handled with ease. No headache just the fanfare your team deserves. That is exactly what Valley River Inn does for teams staying with them. Whether you’re a youth soccer team or a visiting collegiate football team, you will receive the same fanfare. Joey Jewell, Director of Sports Sales & Development, at Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Commission had the opportunity to witness firsthand the time and energy that goes into the preparation and delivery of this red carpet experience for the visiting University of Southern California football team. “It’s really an opportunity to give athletes that ‘VIP’ treatment. Whether it’s a Pac 12 program or Division III, it’s really a neat experience for athletes to have the red carpet rolled out for them,” Joey said. “As an athlete, walking into a nice hotel is one thing; walking into a hotel that provides a ‘Wow factor’ is an experience that they’ll always remember.” Continue reading →
The Chicago Cubs Convention is this awesome event where all the Chicago Cubs fans get together to celebrate, what else, the Cubs. This includes all the Chicago Cubs affiliates, like the Eugene Ems. I got to meet some pretty cool people from the Iowa Cubs, Tennessee Smokies, Myrtle Beach Pelicans and South Bend Cubs teams. It was non-stop action from the moment we arrived. Now, a trip to Chicago wouldn’t be complete without some deep dish pizza and Garrett’s popcorn. Don’t worry I checked those off my list! Continue reading →
